Records include: Battle Creek Sanitarium, run by John Harvey Kellogg, who also promoted vegetarianism, 1904-1968; Battle Creek Sanitarium--Kellogg Food Company, a cereal company run by W.K. (Will Keith) Kellogg, brother of John Harvey Kellogg of the Battle Creek Sanitarium, 1909-1942; Baughn's Pellagra Remedy, a patent medicine for pellagra put out by American Compounding Company, 1913-1930; Baunscheidt's Remedies, a device, the "lebenswecker," invented by a German quack named Baunscheidt and resurrected by John Linden as the "resuscitator," 1910-1961; and Mrs. F. Beard Company, a maker of patent medicines for diseases of women. The Battle Creek Sanitarium published some periodicals, THE NEW EPICURE, BATTLE CREEK IDEA, and GOOD HEALTH. The Baunscheidt "lebenswecker" or "resuscitator" consisted of sharp needles set in a bed of hard rubber or wood. By means of a spring arrangement, the needles were driven into the skin over a painful area; then "Baunscheidt's Oil" was rubbed over the minute wounds produced y the needles. The "treatment" was also resurrected by the Sanzone Company.
